Fresno Grizzlies (AAA): Fresno 2, Omaha 0
Top Lines:
LF Brian Horwitz - 3-3, 1 RBI, .312
SS Omar Vizquel - 1-3, .200
CF Clay Timpner - 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 CS (2), .290
3B Justin Leone - 1-4, 1 2B (2), 1 RBI, .240
SP Matt Palmer - 8.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 SO, 1 WP, 5.26 ERA
RP Alex Hinshaw - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO, 0.71, S (5)
Game Notes: Matt Palmer had another one of his occasional sparkling games, and it was enough to lead to another Fresno win. Today was Palmer's longest outing of the season, and his first without allowing any runs. Both starting pitchers threw exactly 100 pitches, but Palmer did it in two more innings. Hinshaw had another strong outing as he collected his fourth save. He has not walked anyone in his last four innings pitched.
Vizquel had his first rehab hit in his second game in Fresno. He will be playing in San Jose on Tuesday, and has indicated that they are looking at a Friday return for him to the majors. Horwitz had gone 0 for 5 in his last two games before bringing his average back up. Leone has eight home runs, but now just got his second double.
Connecticut Defenders (AA): Harrisburg 5, Connecticut 2
Top Lines:
SS Olmo Rosario - 3-5, 1 R, 2 2B (4), 1 RBI, 1 SB (6), .296
LF Eddy Martinez-Esteve - 1-4, .276
RF Ben Copeland - 0-3, 2 SO, 1 SB (8), 1 HBP, .245
1B Simon Klink - 2-4, 1 2B (3), .218
SP Paul Oseguera - 3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO, 2 WP, 2.57 ERA
RP Steve Palazzolo - 3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR, 1.66 ERA
RP Ronnie Ray - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO, 6.23 ERA
RP Sergio Romo - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO, 1.26 ERA
Game Notes: Offense is so much different than when not in Binghamton. Connecticut banged out nine hits but were not able to get enough of those runners home. Rosario started to show the hitting that he flashed earlier this season, doubling his meager doubles total. Klink has been struggling recently, being held hitless in five of his last six games before today. Copeland's recent hot streak came down with a hitless day.
Oseguera's second start after his delayed debut did not go nearly as well as his first, when he went four scoreless outings. He did reduce the walks from three to one. Palazzolo's ERA rose as he allowed more than one run in an outing for the first time. He has been unscored upon in seven of his ten outings. Romo has 13 strikeouts so far this year, but he has not gotten one in either of his last two outings.
San Jose Giants (High-A): No Game Scheduled
San Jose's season picks up again against recent South Division rival Lake Elsinore on Tuesday. Lake Elsinore, whom the Giants have defeated in their last two California League championship series wins, are currently leading the South Division with a record of 17-14. San Jose, however, has been having problems staying in first themselves, batting with Stockton. San Jose, with a record of 19-12, are four games behind Stockton for second place in the North Division.
Augusta GreenJackets (Low-A): Augusta 11, Rome 2
Top Lines:
SS Ramon Corona - 2-5, 2 R, 1 3B (2), 3 RBI, 1 SO, 1 E (8), .250
CF Shane Jordan - 3-4, 2 R, .256
C Matt Klimas - 3-5, 4 RBI, 1 SO, 1 CS (1), .192
LF Garrett Baker - 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SO, .198
1B Thomas Neal - 1-1, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HBP, .341
2B Nick Noonan - 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1 SB (6), .286
SP Oliver Odle - 8.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO, 5.06 ERA, W (2-3)
RP Dan Runzler - 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO, 8.22 ERA
Game Notes: It's unusual for a team to score 11 runs with just one extra-base hit, but the GreenJackets just pulled it off. The GreenJackets took advantage of 13 hits, four walks, and two hit batters to do the job, and they scored all the runs in the final three innings. Klimas did a lot of the work, with a bases-loaded single that scored two runs, an RBI single, and even an RBI groundout. For Klimas, who has played in just eight games, it was his first four RBI.
Jordan has just three extra-base hits all season, out of 20 total. Neal had a 1.000 on-base percentage on the day, raising his season total to .404 over an average of .341. Noonan has cooled off significantly. He's batting just 4 for 28 over his last seven games. Odle bounced back from two rough starts, where he allowed six runs in each start, to have his longest start of the season. Runzler had allowed runs in each of his last four outings before this one.
