    To our readers,

It saddens me terribly to inform you that, as of August 1st, San Francisco Dugout Online Magazine will be suspending operations.

As it has become apparent, we have not been able to deliver the quantity or quality in news and coverage of the Giants farm system that we aspire to. This is due to many reasons, both personal and professional, but in the media business there can be no excuses. So, very reluctantly, we have come to this decision.

For our subscribers, we will be issuing refunds for the remainder of your subscriptions, as well as for the month of July. You should expect these to come to your respective credit card or Paypal accounts this week.

The pickup of outfielder Carlos Beltran wasn’t enough for the San Francisco Giants with the trade deadline and a flurry of trades coming across the wire.

Infielder Orlando Cabrera was acquired from the Cleveland Indians, it was announced Saturday after the Giants’ loss in Cincinnati. The price in the deal was Triple-A outfielder Thomas Neal.

Trade rumors are heating up and, as expected, the Giants are a big part of them. The team desperately needs offense, knows it, and is willing to go out and get it. The Jeff Keppinger trade last week was a nice one. A good player, upgrading a position of need, offensively and defensively, and for a pair of prospects with much higher potential than production.

But the Giants need more offense. And supposedly, a couple of prospects are off-limits. One shouldn’t be.

Fresno went homer happy as four different players went yard in a win over the Aces. It was a day of comebacks in the lower minors as the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Augusta GreenJackets come back late to win the game....Just Another Day In the Minors!

The San Francisco Giants have recalled first baseman Brandon Belt from Triple-A Fresno and sent catcher Hector Sanchez to Fresno.

Belt was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week the day before being recalled to San Francisco. Belt went 12-for-41 with 11 runs scored, three home runs, eight RBIs, and 11 walks in 12 games since he came back to Fresno July 4. ...

The GreenJackets have been on quite a winning streak, now ten games long, and the latest win completed a sweep of the former first place Savannah Sand Gnats. Former, because Augusta is now in first place. On the rest of the farm, walks terrorized the system, with three pitchers walking five or more batters. It's Just Another Day in the Minors!

Scouting Report: San Jose Giants vs. Inland Empire 66ers, July 16

The San Jose Giants extended their winning streak to 11 games in a 9-4 victory over Inland Empire Saturday night. (They lost their next two games. Boo.)

I scouted the Giants starting pitcher Zack Wheeler, reliever Ari Ronick, and four hitters: outfielders Jarrett Parker and Gary Brown, catcher Tommy Joseph, and shortstop Ehire Adrianza.

It's been a big week on the east coast for the Giants' farm system. In Augusta, the wins are rolling in, and while the credit goes to the entire team, one player's offensive contributions are truly standing out on the stat sheets. Meanwhile, the pitching in Richmond has really helped that team stay in playoff contention, and one pitcher's shutout effort led to a big win on the road.

San Rafael considers minor league ballpark plan.

That's what I saw on the KTVU morning news ticker this morning. Don't judge me--I was up that early to go to my other job, teaching children how to swim.

Several scenarios ran through my mind when I saw that blurb. Was it a possible site for the San Jose Giants to move if the A's move to the South Bay goes through? What about the former Golden Baseball League (now part of the North American League) putting a team there?

The San Jose Giants have announced that David Mixon has retired due to personal reasons.

Mixon pitched for three teams in the San Francisco organization in 2011, throwing the bulk of his 71 1/3 innings in San Jose. He won the California League Pitcher of the Week award in June for his seven inning gem May 31. Mixon allowed two hits and no runs and recorded seven strikeouts in his best game all year. ...

Comebacks dominated the day across the farm system. Fresno fell behind their rivals in Sacramento, but a grand slam helped them go on top. In San Jose, it took a big home run by one of their youngest hitters to come back against Inland Empire. The Volcanoes took advantage of some errors for their comeback. And in Augusta, there wasn't a single extra-base hit to help their comeback against the first-place Sand Gnats. It's Just Another Day in the Minors!

Playing an eleven inning game isn't always all fun. Doing it in the second half of a double-header doesn't help. But when you consider that the game was only supposed to be seven innings? Ouch. Oh, and it was a no-hitter that was broken up by a bunt. Yea, not a great game. But the GreenJackets still got the double-header sweep. Meanwhile, Fresno goes extra innings, while San Jose won their tenth straight for the third time this season. It's Just Another Day in the Minors! ...
